NIMA Inc acknowledges the Awabakal and Worimi peoples on whose land we live, work, create and perform. We extend our respect to Elders, past and present, as the custodians of First Nations culture, knowledge and lore.

 

NIMA Inc. is an incorporated registered charity that was established in March 2009 to address the lack of performance opportunities for contemporary jazz and improvised musicians in Newcastle NSW. The driving goal of NIMA Inc is philanthropic, aiming to advance the culture of new and innovative jazz and improvised music. To achieve this NIMA Inc creates performance opportunities for local and touring artists to showcase their skills and repertoire in a professional setting in collaboration with other organisations, businesses, musicians and the wider community. Additionally, NIMA Inc  provides performance opportunities and audiences the chance to hear new and less commonly accessible music genres in a space where established and emerging musicians can experiment with new and innovative musical styles. In doing so, NIMA Inc aspires to carve out a new niche for upcoming artists.

It is also NIMA's desire to support cultural revival in the city of Newcastle NSW by working collaboratively with major institutions and community stakeholders. The NIMA Inc management committee continues to develop and foster links with local businesses, 1233 ABC, DungeonJazz, University of Newcastle, TAFE and Newcastle City Council. NIMA Inc. aims to provide performance opportunities for graduates of the University of Newcastle, TAFE and other local musicians.
