NIMA was established in 2009 providing a regular live venue for Jazz and Improvised music in Newcastle since March 2011. NIMA has produced over 500 events and paid musicians over half a million dollars in performance fees. In collaboration with The Grand Hotel, NIMA continues to showcase local and touring artists who are performing to a growing audience in a listening room environment resembling a New York style 1920s jazz venue. Patrons are able to immerse themselves in the music and experience a high standard of professional musicianship and sound production.
NIMA has always been run by a dedicated group of volunteers with proceeds from ticket sales going directly to performers.
