About the Event
Freddie Stafford is a jazz pianist and composer from Newcastle, now based in Sydney, where he studies jazz performance at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
Introduced to jazz at age 12 through the Ella and Louis album, Freddie soon began performing with local musicians and was gigging regularly by 15. Now an active presence in Sydney’s jazz scene, he has performed at venues including the Sydney Opera House, Foundry616, and Church St Studios. Influenced by Bud Powell, his playing combines swing, lyricism, and a modern sensibility. Craig Scott describes him as “a seasoned professional... a homage to jazz in every respect.”
The Freddie Stafford quartet are a group of young established musicians in the Australian jazz scene who will perform music in the hardbop/bebop jazz tradition influenced by Sonny Clark, Hank mobley and Wynton Kelly.
