About the Event
Friends and Strangers is a classic jazz funk band comprising some of Sydney’s best jazz and session musicians around. Led by 16yo bassist wonder Galileo Risby, the band predominantly perform Brazilian jazz and funk, original tunes by Bill Risby as well as tunes by Dave Grusin, Lee Ritenour, Fourplay and Pat Metheny.
Individually and occasionally together they have played with artists as diverse as Lalo Schifrin, Gurrumul Yunupingu, Gallarwuy Yunupingu, Bob Mintzer, Maria Schneider, Wynton Marsalis, Leo Sayer, Tal Wilkenfeld, Paul Kelly and Terumasa Hino. They perform original Brazilian/funk music as well as their own arrangements of jazz and fusion classics by a broad swathe of artists including Pat Metheny, Eliane Elias, Fourplay, Dave Grusin and Lee Ritenour.
