About the Event
The quartet is led by pianist and composer Gavin Ahearn, whom Australian Stage has described as a "lyrical jazz pianist, eking out the deeply affecting & truly extraordinary." Ahearn began his musical journey with classical piano training before studying jazz at the Sydney Conservatorium and in New York. His career spans performances at international festivals, collaborations and recordings with ensembles in the US, Europe, and Australia, and extensive tours across Europe, Asia, and Australia. He has co-founded several bands, including Meme Wars and The Wires Project—a mixed media arts collaboration that has appeared at events such as Vivid Sydney, Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Hemnes Festival (Norway), and Urbanscapes Festival (Malaysia). Ahearn has performed and recorded with acclaimed jazz artists including Jon Irabagon, Ingrid Jensen, Adrian Mears, Katie Noonan, Dale Barlow, Briana Cowlishaw among many others.
