Tom Avgenicos: Delay 45

Newcastle-based trumpeter and composer Tom Avgenicos leads his long-standing quartet, Delay 45, performing new music from their forthcoming album 'I’ll Go Where You Go'.  In close collaboration with pianist Roshan Kumarage, bassist Dave Quinn and drummer Ashley Stoneham. Individually agile and collectively unified, their performance style is characterised by short motifs, loops and songs that provide the platform for dynamic textural interplay, ostensibly within the style of a contemporary jazz quartet. With a friendship that dates back to their high school years, Delay 45 perform with a rare cohesion and sensitivity. The result is that the band's collective musical identity comes to the fore, a fine balance between precision and openness, where structure dissolves into spontaneity and familiarity gives way to exploration.
